Certainly not Alexandra Miles. She isn’t nice, but she’s more than skilled at playing the part. Alexandra has a goal, you see—Homecoming Queen. Her ambitions are far grander than her small town will allow, but homecoming is just the first step to achieving total domination. So when peppy, popular Erin Hewett moves to town and seems to have a real shot at the crown, Alexandra has to take action.
With the help of her trusted friend Sam, she devises her most devious plot yet. She’ll introduce an unexpected third competitor in the mix, one whose meteoric rise—and devastating fall—will destroy Erin’s chances once and for all. Alexandra can run a scheme like this in her sleep. What could possibly go wrong?
Review
This book was wicked, compelling, and incredibly unique. In many ways, it was like a train wreck. I’m not sure why I found it so hard to put down, considering how vapid and shallow the book really was. I think such wretchedness almost added to its appeal!
The girls do some seriously messed up things in this book. Like the pill-crushing moment? The razor? The blackmail? How could any of this be okay?!
I enjoyed seeing all the scheming play out, but I was kind of hoping that Lara Deloza (and Alexandra, by extension) would pull a fast one on US, the readers. It would’ve been great to see another fake-out and allow the original candidate to reign supreme. The story ended in an infuriating cliffhanger, and I can only hope that it won’t manifest into a sequel or two. In any case, while I enjoyed this story, I don’t see myself yearning for more.
